The essential oils are produced from all parts of plants. Some
of them are produced from flowers, like ilang ilang or
rose. Some are produced from leaves, like the Melisa or
peppermint. Some from the bark, some of the roots, and others
from the fruits and even from the whole plant.
The essential oils are very concentrated and they are very
active in small doses. They don’t
dissolve in water, only in other
oils and alcohol. This is the reason that they called "oils",
even though they are chemically not oils. We dilute them in
vegetal oils from 2% up to 6% or 10%. There are exceptions like
Lavender that we use mostly undiluted and some we dilute
less than 1%.
Essentials oils are absorbed through our nose (aroma…), through our
skin like in massage therapy, and also by swallowing them in
special cases.
The active components in the essentials oils effects all body
systems. The effects are pharmacological as well as emotional.
They are antiseptic and anti-fungal; they attack bacteria and
viruses. Some are strong anti-inflammatory or anti-infection
agents. We use some for relaxation and others for lifting
the body's energy.
Actually, it is possible to use essential oils in a very
impressive variety of body dysfunctions. Most familiar
treatments are as pain relief, such as head ache or muscles
pain. Also as breathing system relief, burns, insect's bites and
much more.
It is highly recommended
that essentials oils
not be used without
guidance of qualified aroma therapist.
There are oils not to be used in pregnancy, during steroid
treatment or chemotherapy. In any case of doubt,
seek a
professional's advice.
